Cathryn Bishop - Soft Tissue and Scar Therapy
About MeÂ

I am a Soft Tissue Therapist based in Sevenoaks, Kent. I started my training with a BSc Health Science: Therapeutic Bodywork degree at Westminster University and qualified in 2001. During this time I obtained a level 5 Sports Massage diploma from the London School of Sports Massage and studied a variety of neuromuscular and soft tissue techniques under Leon Chaitow, the late, great osteopath and author of many soft tissue publications. I went back to Westminster university in 2003 as an assistant lecturer and was then the lead lecturer teaching on the therapeutic massage course by 2005.
My degree has led to a varied and enjoyable career as a massage therapist, working primarily in the world of sport which I continued through having my children in 2007 and 2009. Now they are older I am always taking new courses to further my skills. Most recently in 2022 I qualified in ScarWork taught by Emma Holly under the Sharon Wheeler method. Shortly after taking that course, Emma launched her own Scar Therapy training school; Restore Scar Therapy where I have gone on to study oncology scar therapy and other courses.
I became interested in scars when a female client who was running the marathon had tight hip flexors, when we started to work around the site of her caesarian scar, she started having flashbacks to the traumatic birth of her son 8 years previously. The trauma held there within excessive scar tissue was affecting the movement through her hips. I became really interested in this which is when I decided to train in scar therapy.

I then went through my own cancer journey in 2023 when I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, it came totally out of the blue as I only discovered a swollen gland just weeks before my diagnosis. Since finishing treatment I now feel in a good place to be helping other going through the same thing. So I trained in oncology scar therapy and now treat a range of clients with soft tissue and scar problems. My clients include people with C-sections scars, cancer surgery scars (from mastectomy and reconstruction to bowel and stoma surgery) and other surgical scars that might be causing a problem with the way they look, feel or affect movement.
I am fully insured through Balens and a member of the Sports Massage Association who are my governing body.
I completed my scar therapy training with Restore therapy, who are the leading educators in Scar therapy massage in the UK. Led by Emma Holly, I have completed two training courses with Emma in person and an online course in understanding scars in greater depth. I have also volunteered my time to help as an assistant on a recent course.
